Pol Box

Pol-box is the name of a men's haircut in Tusheti, a remote area in Georgia's Caucasus on the borders to Chechnya and Dagestan. Every real Tusheti man has the Pol-box haircut. Though being Orthodox christians, the Tusheti hold on their pagan traditions like the Atnigenoba festival which starts hundred days after easter and goes on for five days without interruption. This festival is the expression of the men's way of living. They are irrepressible people, proud of their traditions, living intensive lives and exuberant hospitality in the remote nature of breathtaking Caucasus. Close to the earth, close to the sky - close to death in the midst of life. The photographs were taken in summer 2017.
